1 teal packet of 20 African Violet Seeds (care guide included)

African Violets are a staple indoor plant, staying small and producing colorful flowers year round indoors! These vibrant blooms will bring life and a pop of color to any space. While the plants are easy to grow and care for, growing them from seed makes for a great gardening challenge!

    About each variety:

    - Variegated African Violets: are similar to standard violets, only with white markings on the leaves. They are slightly more slow growing and require a little more light than the standard variety.

    - Lil Gems: similar to standard violets, however they’re 3-6in wide and some leaves are variegated. You can also expect some variation in flower color and leaf shape. Since this variety is a hybrid, germination rates are lower(about 50%).

    - Standard: Standard African Violet leaf shapes and sizes vary, and flowers can be pink, purple, red or white.

    - Fantasy: Fantasy African Violets are similar to standard violets with similar leaf shapes, but most flowers will be bi-color.

    - Trailer: Trailer African Violets are similar to standard violets, only the stems grow longer allowing the plant to trail over the sides of the planters.

These seeds grow slowly, so we recommend using the following to sow the seeds:

Fertilize potting mix with diluted liquid fertilizer prior to sowing and continue watering with diluted fertilizer as the seedlings grow. If using a grow light, place the planter ~10in away from the light and keep the lights on for 10hrs a day.

    Sprouting in a Smart Garden

Had trouble keeping the sprouts moist on my other attempts. These are very delicate sprouts. This is my 3rd attempt starting African Violets. I started the seeds in a Click & Grow (never have to worry about watering or light) and very quickly I got seriously tiny sprouts. Super excited! Third time's a charm!
If anyone has any problem seeds, you should definitely try a smart garden.

    Seriously tiny!

Managed to “plant” them and hoping to see sprouts in the next two weeks! Putting them on a small white piece of paper helped, then shook them gently to get one or two seeds to each section of the tray. Can’t wait to see what happens!

    Coming along

Sowed seeds on very fine vermiculite. With a magnifying glass I saw them peeking out yesterday.

how do I grow houseplant seeds?

All of our orders come with a basic starter guide for you to follow, but our seed guide here goes in much more detail and also offers alternative seed starter methods.

We also include additional planting tips specific to each seed variety under the "instructions" tab of each product page. If you need extra help, don't hesitate to reach out to us at hello@plantflix.com!
